In spite of the lofty title this is about memes. Specifically those “what my mom thinks I do, what I actually do” memes were pretty popular a couple years ago. Here are my favorites for “computer programmer”.
The first one captures that fact that there is a lot of googling for answers and CS classes don’t tend to tell you you’ll spend your life trying to figure out the intermittent database connection failure instead of recursing a binary tree depth-first.
The next one captures the boring reality of it all.
Yeah, copy/paste is probably a bigger programming paradigm that refactoring.
The “playing games” part here would be funnier if it weren’t so true.
“Scratching your head” should also be a part of CS 101.
And finally an honorable mention for IT which could certainly apply to most programmers.
