First off, I read something saying the “no kings” protestors were dumb heads because we don’t have a king. Well that is true but the official White House account posted a picture of Trump as king so that makes it seem like a pretty legit thing to protest against.
Second, there was another post about how the “no kings” protest was organized by shadowy donors because they had commercially prepared signs. Well golly, you can get lots of “no kings” things on Amazon (don’t tell Bezos) and my understanding is that’s just called capitalism. That’s not shadowy donors, that’s just entrepreneurs filling a demand.
Third, regarding another post which suggested that it should really have been called “no brains”: there’s a ton of stuff going on that I don’t think even Trump supporters knew they were voting for. He’s certainly not behaving like any previous American presidents. I think the protestors are more in the “no sheep” zone because they’re not blindly following an ever-changing doctrine of “I’ll do whatever the hell I want and my followers will fall in line”.
King Trump
Is Trump in fact acting like a king? In many ways, yes. Take tariffs. It’s pretty well understood at this time that it’s the American citizens who will bear the brunt of the cost of those tariffs, not the other countries and advertised. And that money goes to the government so it’s really just a tax. And since those tariffs didn’t go through Congress they’re taxes without representation.
And starting that war with Iran: again no approval from Congress so no democratic representation involved in taking us to war.
Putting his name on buildings, his signature on money, his “brand” on government issues like the Trump Account for children, etc. That’s all king type stuff. It’s more what you’d expect from Kim Jong Un than an American president.
Sure, it was called colloquially “Obama care” but the official name was the Affordable Care Act.
Now sure our elected representatives are not doing anything to stop any of this outside of filing tons of lawsuits which Trump ignores. So I guess their lack of actions could be taken as some sort of tacit approval but I don’t think anyone voted thinking “oh they’re just a place holder”.
Still waiting for the GOP to grow a spine and for the Dems to send me more interesting email than “please donate money.”
