OK, I think I’ve figured things out.  “They” think we were just trying to tick them off electing a black president and then running a female candidate.  So they did the thing they figured would get to “us” the most by electing a guy who’s a pathological liar, conspiracy theorist, racist reality TV star with no experience.

Never mind the fact that “our” folks were actually qualified, experienced good choices– they think we did it just to push their buttons.

So this is just to get “us” back.  Unfortunately I’m afraid they’ve also inadvertently pranked themselves.  Fingers crossed that I’m wrong.
