Sadly, one of the most reliable indicators of the onset of senility is repeating yourself more frequently.  And often, the repeated phrase takes the form of railing against someone or something, e.g. “get off my lawn” or “witch hunt!” This leads to the popular stereotype of the “crotchety old man.”

The subject may shout the phrase impotently from their front porch, often while gesticulating wildly and threatening to call the police or sue or raise taxes on European cars.

Another common indicator is that the subject quotes Fox News as if it is real and based on facts. “They’re stealing land from white people! It’s an outrage! Very fine people!”  But advancing age affects the memory and the fact that “white people” stole that land only recently is far over the event horizon and in the distant past.

It used to be inside of 30 minutes he’d repeat, word-for-word and expression-for-expression, the same three stories — now it was within 10 minutes. Indeed, many of his tweets were the product of his repetitions — he just couldn’t stop saying something. — Hope Hicks

While it’s a relief to realize there’s no “master plan to take over the government” it is still a bit worrisome that we’ve elected a person in obvious mental decline to pilot the ship.
